HCl gas is the cleanest route to an API salt. It is also the hardest one to scale. Until now.
Producing API.HCl salts directly from HCl gas gives perfect atom economy and the least waste. Yet in batch it is hard to scale: A toxic, corrosive gas, a solid that forms in a slurry, and a lot of reaction heat that needs to be removed. That is why many manufacturers choose alternative routes, using aqueous HCl, followed by an energy intensive dehydration step afterwards.
Our new whitepaper shows another way. The perfect solution.
Thanks to our SpinPro dynamic flow reactor:
- HCl gas is fully consumed. Perfect atom efficiency.
- The product is obtained as a slurry of up to 50% solids.
- Full continuous processing with no clogging in a dynamic reactor.
- Simple and cost-efficient work-up by in-line filtration.
- Safer processing in a high capacity reactor with a small volume.
- Real-time conversion tracking with in-line Raman spectroscopy.
Demonstrated with pyridine HCl, a model for the many APIs that contain a pyridine or amine group, in collaboration with the MSc Chem Eng University of Groningen, Faculty of Science and Engineering.
